Hi - I'm Jenny Wren Cameron and welcome to my blog. This is where I will share with you some of my creative work and why I love to design, pattern make, cut, sew and generate original pieces. I quilt and wet felt amongst other things.

I have been sewing since I was about 7. When I finished school I went and did an Associate Diploma of Arts (Fashion Couture). After working in the Fashion Industry for many years I followed my Husband to an area that made it more difficult to be a full time pattern maker and so I started doing my own designing of Bridesmaids and Wedding dresses and made to measure.

Since then a family has been started and we embarked on an Expat adventure to the beautiful Utah Mountains. We love where we are - such an amazing place and incredible people.

 I have joined the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild which has been and incredible experience. Check out all the amazing work of our guild members and the Ez Dresden Challenge. Today I'm featuring the third quilt I a have designed and made. It was made for a little boy who has a love of Chickens. I used http://www.flickr.com/photos/slumbergirldesigns/3548695286/ as a base for my finished 3 dimensional chicken block. I lucked upon some chicken mesh and a timber board prints. I wanted to create a roost for these Roosters! I think "He Who Ruled The Roost" is an appropriate title for this Quilt and it suited this little guy's personality too.

It is large - 81" x 93" - large enough to fit his king single bed (I'm an Aussie living in America and so you will see some funny terms and spelling used here), so for the Americans reading this - you would say XL Twin, I think!

 

The complete Roost!

 

For Me to be able to quilt this on my domestic machine I had to incorporate Leah Day's way of Quilt as You Go into the finished design. Details can be found at  http://freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/2012/02/quilt-along-7-connected-quilted-pieces.html. So I had 6 pieces in this quilt prior to joining the bias binding connecting strips. I hand finished the back pieces as you can see in the photo of the back below.

I love how flat the quilt is considering it is made up of so many pieces.

 The strip of turquoise spot fabric I found to really add punch to this colour scheme. I had very little of  it but wanted to use it in a unusual way. Rather than piece it in, I folded it to create a flange. I love dimension in a quilt.
